How to use the Database Exporter tool πŸ“€

Previously called "Audience exporter". Find out here how to export and download your contact data whenever you need it.

Written by Stephen Evans

Introduction

The Database Exporter (previously called Audience Exporter) lets you download a list of your contacts based on any saved audience - great for when you need your data outside of Airship.

Because this involves personal data, access to this feature is intentionally limited to a small number of users on your account. The account owner gets access automatically and can grant it to others via Settings > Users & Roles > Manage Users. The permission to look out for is called Audience Exports Access.

Related guide: before you can use the exporter you will need to create a saved audience.

Running an export

  1. From the dashboard sidebar click Database and then Export

  2. Click the blue Create New button in the top right corner

  3. Pick your saved audience from the dropdown

  4. Give the export a name so you can find it easily

  5. Tick Email me when this export is ready if you'd like a notification when it's done

  6. Click to run the export

Can't see the Export feature? Email us at success@airship.co.uk and we'll get it set up or let you know who on your account has access.

Note: The export reflects your audience at the time of running the export - if more contacts fall into your saved audience you may need to re-run the export.

Checking your export is ready

For larger exports, it can take several hours to complete. You can check progress in two ways:

By email

If you ticked the "Email me when this export is ready" notification box, you'll get an email with the subject line "Your audience export is ready" with a View my export button.

In Airship

Head back to Database > Export and check whether the status has changed from Started to Completed. When it's completed the Download button will appear.
