How to delete a contact

Need to delete a contact on your Airship database? Here's how.

Written by Stephen Evans

What does deleting a contact do?

Deleting a contact permanently removes them and all their data from your Airship database.

This means they will no longer receive emails or other messages from Airship.

Did you know? Contacts can request to delete their data on the Airship Data Preferences Centre. Find out if you have this set up on your account.

When would you need to delete a contact?

If a customer asks to be removed from your database, you are required under GDPR to action this within one month of their request.

Note:

  • If a contact simply wants to stop receiving emails or SMS messages, consider updating their opt-in status instead.

  • If the contact requests a Subject Access Request (SAR) reach out to Airship support (success@airship.co.uk) and we will help with this.

How to delete a contact

Step 1. Go to Insights > Dashboard (classic) in the sidebar.

Step 2. Search for the contact using their email address or mobile number.

Step 3. On the contact's profile page, scroll to the bottom and click the red Delete contact button in the bottom right corner.

Step 4. Click OK on the confirmation pop-up that appears at the top of the page.

The contact will now be permanently deleted from your database.

Once deleted, you will be redirected to the Dashboard screen where you will briefly see a green "Contact deleted successfully" notification at the top of the page.

You can also confirm the deletion by searching for the contact again. If the deletion was successful, you will see a "contact not found" message.
