How to update a contact's opt-in status

Need to change someone's opt-in status? Here's what to do.

Introduction

Sometimes you may need to manually update a contact’s preferences in Airship.

When to use this

  • Opting someone in: For example, a contact who is already opted-in for SMS asks to receive email offers as well. Or they opted out but later decide they want to be opted back in. Tip: Always ensure you have this request in writing to remain compliant with GDPR.

  • Opting someone out: For example, a contact asks you to manually remove them from your mailing list instead of using the "Unsubscribe" link themselves.


How to update a contact's opt-in status

  1. Log into Airship

  2. On the Overview page search for the contact using the contact search bar

  3. Click the search symbol or press Enter on your keyboard to search the contact

  4. Now on the right-hand side of the contact’s profile page are the Global opt-in preferences section

  5. Click Yes or No for the relevant communication methods to change the opt-in status (Email, SMS, Call, or Post).

Confirming the change

When you click Yes or No, the preference is automatically saved.

A "Contact updated" confirmation message will appear near the top of your screen to let you know the change was successful.
